Wind

Famara faces north, so the N–NE trades come in onshore to side-onshore, usually 15–28 kn. The summer trades are the most consistent. In winter the swell takes over and the wind is more variable.

Water & level

It's all waves: shorebreak, white water and clean faces further out. With six kilometres of beach there's plenty of space, but onshore wind and constant white water make it hard work for newbies. Lessons here run on the right days with an instructor.

Launch & rules

Launch from the wide sand south of Caleta de Famara village, away from the surf school zones near the village. Surfers are on the peaks too, so give them space and keep your lines out of the lineup.

Watch out

Strong rip currents, heavy shorebreak on big days and gusts dropping off the cliffs at the far end. Onshore wind means a lost kite washes in fast, and so do you.
