Wind
The beach faces east across the lake. NE, E and SE blow onshore to side-onshore, and N works side-shore. That makes Kokkorevo the go-to when the Gulf of Finland spots are offshore on easterlies. West and south-west winds are offshore here.
Water & level
Shallow sandy water for 50–300 m, then the lake drops off. Ladoga builds longer, more powerful waves than the gulf and keeps them for a while after the wind drops. Freshwater, clean and about 5°C colder than the gulf, so July is the classic month.
Launch & access
There's a wide semi-wild sandy beach about 40 km north-east of the city, on the Road of Life memorial route. Concrete blocks and other structures sit on parts of the beach, so pick your launch carefully. In winter the lake ice is used for snowkiting.
Watch out
Cold water even in summer, deep water close in, concrete structures on the beach, and offshore westerlies. Ladoga storms build fast.
