Wind
The western shore faces Narva Bay and the open Baltic, so SW, W and NW come in with a huge fetch and real power, often 20–30 kn in autumn. The eastern shore of the peninsula, on Luga Bay, is sandy but often sheltered and windless when the west side is firing.
Water & level
Waves and chop, with lots of boulders along the west shore and in the water. This is for experienced, self-sufficient riders only. The live stations are across the bay at Narva-Jõesuu, about 30 km away.
Rules & access
The peninsula is the Kurgalsky nature reserve (zakaznik), a protected wetland with seasonal bird-protection areas and restrictions on driving and camping. Check the current reserve rules before you go. Access is via Kingisepp and Ust-Luga, about 150 km from St Petersburg, and is partly near the border zone.
Watch out
Boulders, cold water, no help or phone signal in places, and a long way out. Go as a group and tell someone your plan.
