Wind

Lakhta faces south-west over Neva Bay, so W, SW and S are the working directions, usually 12–20 kn in summer. Northerly and easterly winds come off the city and are gusty and offshore. Skip them.

Water & level

There's a big shallow area near the shore and a short chop once the wind builds. It's good enough for a quick session or for practising transitions, but the sheltered bay is less powerful than the open gulf. Water quality in this part of the bay is not great after heavy rain.

Ice season

In a frozen winter Lakhta and Neva Bay turn into a popular snowkite area right next to the city. Be careful: around outfalls and channels the ice stays thin or open all winter. Stick to known tracks and go with locals.

Watch out

Thin ice near outflows, offshore days, debris and the occasional boat traffic near the yacht port. There's no dedicated kite station, so you're on your own.

Live wind

Live readings come straight from the station owners via the embedded widgets. Stations go offline sometimes; if a reading looks frozen, check the time stamp.
