The south shore is open to a wide arc, from NW and W through SW and S to SE. That's why Kronstadt is often the answer when other shores are offshore. Usual summer wind is 12–18 kn, more in autumn storms. Pure N and NE blow off the island, so skip those days.
Water & level
This is the highlight. A huge shallow area, about waist-deep for hundreds of metres, with a sandbank around 500 m out that flattens the water. It's ideal for learning, first jumps and freestyle. Beginners stand up and walk back upwind instead of swimming.
Launch & facilities
Kite stations on the south and south-west shore offer rentals and lessons, plus showers and a warm changing room, which is priceless in May and October. Access is by car or bus across the KAD dam.
Watch out
Stones and boulders in places on the bottom, especially towards the north shore of the island, which is for experienced riders. Shallow water means you hit the bottom hard on crashes. The north side also gets ship wakes.
Live wind
Live readings come straight from the station owners via the embedded widgets. Stations go offline sometimes; if a reading looks frozen, check the time stamp.
