Where to Kite Each Month: A Season Calendar for 34 Spots
Kite season is a moving target, so plan by month, not by country. This calendar follows the seasons shown on each spot page.
Winter: December to February
Vietnam (Mui Ne and My Hoa) is in its prime on the NE monsoon. Cape Town has its best wind from December to March. Egypt still works, with fewer but stronger windy days. St Petersburg turns to ice and snowkite.
Spring: March to May
Egypt and Tarifa are reliable, and the Mar Menor is at its best in spring. The Canaries start to wake up. Anapa switches on in May and the Gulf of Finland opens up.
Summer: June to August
The Canaries and Tarifa peak with the trades and the Levante. Egypt averages around 22 kn. Roses has its summer thermal. Anapa and St Petersburg are in their warm-water season. Vietnam is off.
Autumn: September to November
Tarifa and the Mar Menor get stronger. The Gulf of Finland gets its best autumn wind in September and October. Egypt stays windy until November. Vietnam comes back in November, and Cape Town in November to December.
