Dakhla Lagoon
A huge lagoon behind a long desert peninsula on the Atlantic coast. The wind is steady and mostly side-shore, the water is flat near the shore, and there is enough room for beginners, freeriders and downwinders to share it.

Wind
Mostly a north-easterly, side-shore in the lagoon, and often 15–30 kn from late spring to early autumn. Sources put the main season at April to October and the strongest wind in summer, and a few days a year the wind turns southerly. Check the live forecast for the day rather than counting on it.
Water & level
Flat to choppy, depending on tide and how far you are from shore. It is flattest close to the shore on the north side of the lagoon, where most schools and camps sit, and especially at low tide. The sea is cool for a desert: around 19–24°C all year, so bring a shorty in summer and a long wetsuit in winter.
Launch & rules
Most riders stay at a kite camp or school on the lagoon and launch from its beach. Schools also run guided trips to downwind spots such as the White Dune and to wave spots on the Atlantic side, which are for experienced riders.
Watch out
Wind that is stronger than you think and sometimes choppy water in the afternoon, cool water and an exposed coast. Local rules are not clearly documented, so talk to a school or local rider before going out, and ride within marked shallow zones.
